Early mornings

A typical morning in our house.
At 5:45: I race out of bed and speed tip-toe across our creaky, old kitchen floors and into the girls' room. I nurse Riglee back to sleep before her early morning cries can wake up the millie mae. Speed tip-toeing is up there with star throwing and num-chucking in the ninja mom handbook don'tchaknow.
If I am successful, I put a sleeping Riglee back into her crib and I can now get a workout in before the girls wake up for the day. The speed tip-toe is all important because if I am unsuccessful, the grumpy baby's cries wake up the grumpy toddler which makes mom grumpy and now our entire house is a big grumpy blob of grumps.
Do not underestimate the power of the speed tip toe.

After workout I shower, put on mom sweats & a mom high bun and am DYING for the girls to wake up because by now it's been about ten years since I've kissed their sweet smiling faces and also I am getting dang hungry. I like to wait to eat breakfast with my girls but by now my stomach is saying "yo Lauren! Feed me yo! Holla!" {my intestines are gangsters}
And I just get super anxious to comply because you do not mess with gangsters/I'm hungry.

Then the girls awake, we eat breakfast, watch Monkey George {what the cool toddlers say instead of Curious George} and then daddy comes home from working at UPS! Upon which time a dance party of epic proportions usually breaks out, music is provided in the form of a screaming toddler and sounds only vaguely like a song from Frozen... {smile}

I think we have the best mornings ever.

for the sake of documentation

our little ladies loooooove to play outside.
and what adventures they can have on the yellow farm!
t & i love our home.
we also love our family.
this habitat of ours is brimming with love & stuff, basically.

when millie was a little baby i used to really, really care about how she looked in photos.
she had to be wearing a bow, her clothes had to match, her face clean and for goodness sake matching socks were a must!
i couldn't care less about that anymore.
because when you have a two year old & a ten month old... bows fall off while they play, spit up lends to an endless rotation of onesies, outside play demolishes a clean face and socks get pulled off as soon as possible.
but there is beauty in the mess.
mismatched outfits & a lack of socks won't keep me from posting photos of my girls anymore!

because i have to document the way millie tries to help riglee stand up:

& the way riglee's eyes sparkle & shine in the sunlight:

the way the girls fit the farm like a glove:

how the trees completely envelope the house on all sides:

or how riglee looked when she started walking:
{she's only ten months. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE RIGLEE? this is not ok!}

the world is so BIG when you are so small.
can you imagine?

shout out to travis.
he worked hard this summer & last to get our lawn looking great,
he is amazing & the farm never looked so good!
what a hottie. i am a lucky broad.

Day to Day

I am a stay-at-home mom.
I am a mom that stays at home with my two little girls all day long.
I teach, I cook, I play, sometimes I clean.
Sometimes we go out, sometimes we don't.
My day to day life with my girls is my absolute favorite, i don't want to forget their quirks that make up my mundane, ordinary, exhilarating day to day.
they use Riggy's baby food to play blocks together on the kitchen floor while i clean up their lunch. messy faces & full tummies make for great play time. millie tries to make a fort & riglee knocks it down. somehow it never gets old.

millie thought it would be a nice idea to put all of the baby food into her laundry hamper.
i will never know why.
the mysterious life of a toddler.

General Conference Weekend

source

General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is this weekend. Saturday & Sunday will begin a weekend of uplifting messages and music, personal revelation and, at the yellow farm, some strawberry cheesecake french toast with lots of whipped cream. I love General Conference weekend, its a time I look forward to every six months to listen to the words of the living prophet and apostles of the restored gospel. You can tune in yourself right here starting at 10am MDT.

Riglee Jane : A Birth Story

It was July 4th, 2014. I was a hot and sweaty pregnant mess.
I was surrounded by family & friends, dressed like an American Flag and my belly was full of hamburgers, homemade root beer, apple pie and a baby. It was a fun day which was about to become even more fun... because at 11pm that night I felt my first REAL contraction and BOOOOM!! I was finally in labor!

I had been feeling whimpy little practice contractions consistently for the previous two days. They weren't painful, just completely obnoxious. Basically my uterus was all, "neener neener neener" and I was all "QUIT IT".
But, you know.... uteruses.

I was waiting for the real contractions to kick in and at 11pm just after the fireworks, THEY DID!! So travis & I packed the hospital bags and folded some laundry then headed to bed at around midnight {We had left Millie at her nana & papa's house to stay the night}. I slept for a good twenty minutes and then woke up with a jolt because contractions.

So i breathed through them and the time passed quickly by. Then I got bored. When I labored with millie i labored in the bath tub and it was super great, but this time I was tired and did not feel like getting wet & pruny. Now, when I am pregnant I do a lot of research {don't we all?} and in my research I found a crunchy mom's blog who said that laboring on the toilet is amazing. I assumed she wasn't simply crazy cray and decided to give it a try.
and folks, she was right.

I sat my pregnant self down on our toilet for a few hours in the middle of the night. my husband slept and I did my make up & curled my hair between contractions. by the time we left for the hospital at 5:30am, I was flipping beautiful and had a very sore bum.

We arrived at the hospital at around 6am on a Saturday morning. We were the only ones in labor and delivery! They got the IV in after three different nurses and four different tries {UM YES I'M IN ENOUGH PAIN ALREADY} and readied me for the epidural. The nurse checked my cervix and I was dilated to an eight! With millie I only made it to a five... apparently labor is something you get better at with practice. The nurse asked if I wanted to try to keeping going all natural and the only answer I had for that nurse was a resounding, "Nope."

Then came the epidural and then, a much needed nap. I slept for a few hours and when I woke up at 11am I was dilated to a nine and my Arizona family was just rolling in from their 16 hour drive! I was so happy that they had made it!! At 1pm it became time to push and at 1:06pm I gave birth to an absolutely gorgeous, 9lb 8oz, blue-eyed, red-headed little Riglee Jane.

Riglee's eyes looked at mine & her little hands and feet were so incredibly small, her cheeks so chubby, her quivering chin and her sweet little body. She was all mine! All mine and trav's and Millie's.
Forever.
We finally had our little sister here on earth with us.

In an instant, I loved her. She is a sweet little light in our home. I know that she was placed into our family for a reason. I love the relationship that has already developed between Millie & Riglee, I can't wait to see them together for years to come! GOSH! Motherhood really is something, isn't it?

^ a daddy's girl in the making! ^

^ When Millie met Riglee for the first time, she said, "my beebee seesta mommy?" ^

 we love you riggy roo

Millie Mae - 1 1/2 Photoshoot!

I love my Millie Girl. She is a big bad toddler now!!
She doesn't mind photoshoots with mommy which is good news for me!
Millie loves to say hi to everyone at the store, she loves to wave to the cows on the Yellow Farm, she loves to eat oreos, color with markers {no crayons please, mom}, and read her lift-the-flap books. She has the sweetest heart, the bluest eyes and the biggest personality.
Trav & i love our Millie Mae!
^^ millie discovered the wonders dandelion fuzz for the first time this week!^^

^^ my happy little angel girl!^^

^^ her piggie tails kill me everytime. ^^
there is nothing cuter than toddler hair! nothing!
^^ millie learned that eating the fuzz is not the yummiest.^^
trial & error, girlfriend.
"ugh! mom! help!"

 ^^ queen of the world!!^^

^^ i love that millie inherited her daddy's eyes. ^^
^^ i also love that she inherited her mama's nose!^^

^^ millie girl loves cows. LOVES them. sometimes she can see them from her bedroom and she'll run run run to grab her footstool, plop it down in front of the window and will stay there for a full twenty minutes waving and smiling and saying, "hi cows! hi! COWS! HI COWS!!" ^^
^^ The Yellow Farm is a pretty great adventure spot for growing little girls!^^
^^ i love when she walks around like this. it's like she's deep in thought about the next mess she's going to make or the next strange thing she's going to try to eat.^^

she's a doll. just a doll!

little sister will be here in just two months! a good thing too because this mama is already SO DONE with being pregnant it's getting nuts! straight up nuts!

A Day at the Yellow Farm

Being from Arizona, i love all things hot & summery. Winter is SUCH a drag in my opinion, and i have no idea why it even bothers to show up at all--let alone every single year without fail. Boise should get some better bouncers up in here. STAT.

Thankfully, spring is slowly slowly beginning to make its appearances & this mama cannot contain her excitement when it does!!! Here are a few photographs to document the happy happy day: complete with a handsome daddy, a 20 week pregnant mommy, an adventurous 15-month-old Millie Mae & a Smokie!

just when we thought the fun would have to end, Uncle Kameron stopped by to bring us a gift!
he made us a swing!!!
can you believe it? i can't think of a more perfect thing to add the farm than a swing.
so thoughtful of him! he took a burn pen & etched our name & the farm in himself.
we love it! thank you Kameron!!
