still no baby

38weeks

oh hey. still no baby over here. this whole "patiently waiting" thing is getting SUPER old... we just want to love on our girl already! but you guys, the best thing happened to me this morning. as i was pouring myself a glass of milk, i noticed that the milk we have in our fridge right now expires AFTER baby girl is due. that means we are so close! the end is in sight! or should i say the beginning? {smile}
i've been feeling a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions lately, sometimes they'll come every ten minutes but then won't come again for hours. I guess my uterus is just practicing for the big day! I am kind of scared for what real contractions will feel like. I've never been in any REAL pain before {i've led a very sheltered life} and wonder just what my pain tolerance is. not to mention that all of my mama friends describe contractions very differently, some say they get it in their back, others say it's similar to menstrual cramps, some say it's like bad indigestion! that is so confusing!

all i know is that i am anxiously awaiting the day t & i will finally be able to meet our daughter. OUR DAUGHTER!! this little spirit that we already love more than anything. soon. very very soon.

Contractions feel different to every woman. As a doula/midwife, I have had the opportunity to watch how differently women handle those contractions. Every labor is unique to the woman. There is a midwife saying that goes: "Every woman has the birth she needs." I can say that from my perspective this is quite true. Having a baby is hard work. Not impossible, miserable work though--with proper, knowledgeable support, the labor is made easier. During your braxton-hicks ctx, practice your breathing techniques...whatever method you're using, so that when real active labor begins, you will easily fall into a pattern of breathing that you and your supportive husband are familiar with. Even if you're planning on an epidural--you will need to get thru the first hours of labor without it. So breathe calmly, stay relaxed in your shoulders, neck, and jaw, and also your bum. Think of each ctx as a wave that comes in, greet it, and let it roll back out to sea again...knowing that each wave brings your baby girl closer to your arms. She'll be here before you know it! Good Luck!

You look great! The last two (almost 3!) weeks were the hardest for me. Just try to stay busy, but rest up haha.
